The challenge
Demolish a swimming pool and landscape the yard of a property located on a hill with just a narrow path accessing the backyard. There was no way to directly drive the required earth moving equipment onto the site. The client’s question: “What can I do?”
The solution
At an on-site consultation with the customer, options were proposed – along with on-the-spot site sketches – for how the space could be reinvented within the available budget. This helped the client quickly reach a decision on how they wanted to proceed.
The Kanga (a versatile small digger) was hoisted onto the property by a hiab crane from the neighbour’s driveway to begin the demolition of the pool. The required soil and other materials were carried over the boundary fence by a conveyor belt.
The broken-down pool debris was used to fill the hole before a new layer of top-soil was applied and the area converted to a raised lawn and garden, supported by a retaining wall.
The result
A raised roll-out lawn with a small, terraced area for a rotary clothes line, finished off with an exposed aggregate concrete path linking the upper and lower levels of the yard.
